When a patient has a serious spinal condition that requires the base of the skull (occiput) to be fused, or joined, to the neck (cervical-upper thoracic spine), this complex procedure must be performed from the back of the spine, also known as a posterior approach. The Vertex Select occipitocervical module contains implants and an instrument set necessary for performing this surgical procedure.
Used with the existing Vertex reconstruction system, the Vertex Select occipitocervical module offers adjustability through multiple plate designs, rods, screws, and hooks that gives surgeons more options during surgery, enabling them to tailor the procedure to each patient’s needs, said Medtronic.
Steve La Neve, president of the spinal and biologics business and senior vice president at Medtronic, said: “The Vertex Select reconstruction system builds on our surgeons’ trust and familiarity with our Vertex reconstruction system.”
