Wright Medical introduces Prophecy pre-operative navigation

Wright Medical Group, an orthopedic medical device company, has launched its new Prophecy pre-operative navigation guides for knee arthroplasty.

According to Wright Medical, the Prophecy program will enable surgeons to utilize basic CT or MRI scan technology to plan precise implant placement and alignment, before they enter the operating room. Therefore, surgeons will envision the results of surgery before it actually occurs.

In contrast to utilizing traditional instruments to align the knee during surgery, the Prophecy program utilizes computer imaging to develop patient-specific guides that follow the unique curvature of the patient’s bone anatomy.

Once the procedure begins, patient-specific Prophecy guides allow the surgeon to complete the implant placement with accuracy. By promoting accurate alignment, providing optimal sizing and guiding precision implant placement, Prophecy pre-operative navigation delivers reproducible surgical results for knee arthroplasty, the company said.

Alex Winber, Wright’s director of OrthoRecon – Knees, said: “Our goal is not only to improve accuracy and decrease patient anesthesia time, but to allow for greater function and long-term survival of the implants by placing them in a position for optimal mechanical function.”
