GE Healthcare and ThermoGenesis in global distribution agreement

GE Healthcare has agreed to distribute ThermoGenesis developed platforms for harvesting stem cells from cord blood, and for storage of cord blood.

Under the terms of the agreement, GE Healthcare will distribute the ThermoGenesis developed AXP AutoXpress platform upon launch in early 2006, as well as the BioArchive System.

The AXP system is a closed and automated system for harvesting mononuclear cells from cord blood. This cell population contains the hematopoietic stem cells used to treat more than 60 malignant, genetic and acquired diseases, such as leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell anemia, thalassemia and immunodeficiency.

The BioArchive system is a computer-controlled cryopreservation and storage system for cord blood, initially in North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East and Gulf regions.

The company’s have also entered into an R&D collaboration to develop product line extensions for the AXP and BioArchive platforms.
