Teva announces tentative approval of herpes tablets

Teva Pharmaceutical has been granted tentative FDA approval for its generic version of Novartis' Famvir herpes tablets.

Final approval of the famciclovir tablets in 125mg, 250mg and 500mg doses is expected on August 24, 2007, upon expiry of the mandatory stay of approval associated with patent litigation related to the drug.

The brand product had annual sales of approximately $190 million for the twelve months ended March 31, 2007, based on IMS sales data.
