The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given approval to Instituto Bioclon's Anascorp as a treatment for Centruroides scorpion stings in the US.

Manufactured by Instituto Bioclon, Anascorp, Centruroides (Scorpion) Immune F(ab’)2 (Equine) Injection, is made from the plasma of horses immunized with scorpion venom.
The FDA approval is based on the results from a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial involving 15 children with neurological signs and scorpion stings.
FDA Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research director Karen Midthun said this product provides a new treatment for children and adults and is designed specifically for scorpion stings.
Anascorp is licensed to Rare Disease Therapeutics.
The injection will be distributed by Accredo Health Group, a subsidiary of Medco Health Solutions.
