Watson rolls out generic contraceptive pill

Watson Laboratories, a subsidiary of Watson Pharmaceuticals, has rolled out Amethia, which is the generic version of Duramed Pharmaceuticals' contraceptive tablet Seasonique.

Seasonique is a combination of female hormones that helps in preventing ovulation.

Seasonique makes changes in the cervical mucus and uterine lining, to make it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

Earlier, Duramed had filed a lawsuit against Watson in the US Court to prevent Watson from launching the drug as it infringes Duramed’s US patent no 7,320,969, it still remains pending.
