New Jersey Doctor Files Patent Lawsuit Against Abbott Over Heart Stents

New Jersey doctor Bruce Saffran has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Abbott Laboratories (Abbott), the Bloomberg News reported. In the suit filed in federal court in Marshall, Texas, Bruce Saffran claims the Abbott infringed his patent used for heart stents. Abbott believes that Bruce Saffran's patent is invalid, and will defend itself against the claims, a company spokeswoman said.

As per lawsuit, Abbott has willfully undertaken and carried out the aforesaid infringing activity with knowledge of” the patent.

Previously, Bruce Saffran has won a patent infringement suit against Boston Scientific Corporation over the same patent. A jury awarded $500 million verdict against Boston Scientific Corporation. Boston Scientific settled this suit later with Bruce Saffran for unspecified terms.
