Covidien Launches NeoMode Software Upgrade For Puritan Bennett 840 Ventilator

Enables clinical staff to increase set FiO2 by 20% for a period of up to two minutes

Covidien has launched the NeoMode software upgrade for the Puritan Bennett 840 ventilator, an improvement designed to help clinicians better manage neonate patients.

The NeoMode software upgrade enables clinical staff to increase set FiO2 by 20% for a period of up to two minutes. It also features noninvasive, neonatal continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), which can reduce nuisance alarms when patients are breathing noninvasively. Additionally, as neonates grow, the required base-level software upgrade enables clinicians to easily adjust the ideal body weight (IBW) setting, without disconnecting the patient or power-cycling the ventilator.

Douglas Hansell, chief medical officer and vice president of respiratory and monitoring solutions at Covidien, said: “These enhancements are aimed at helping clinicians more effectively manage neonates and premature infants. Being able to easily adjust the ventilator when neonates grow rapidly will naturally facilitate care, as well as maintain the appropriate levels of oxygen. In addition, the reduction in nuisance alarms will help the clinical staff be more efficient.”
