Avery Dennison

The Avery Dennison Corporation is a Fortune 500 company, specialising in the development and supply of an innovative range of self-adhesive labelling solutions for many markets, including the pharmaceutical segment.

Avery Dennison was founded in America in 1935 and has since grown to become a global industry leader, with employees in over 60 countries and sales in 2009 of around $6 billion.

The Avery Dennison Fasson® range of pharmaceutical products provides advanced, cost effective labelling solutions, supported by its global capabilities and technology base. These products have been developed to meet the industry standards for mandrel performance, low migration characteristics, certification and compliance.

Dedicated pharmaceutical label materials

Avery Dennison’s high quality pharmaceutical product range has been developed to meet the industry’s requirements for mandrel performance, low migration characteristics and compliance. Typical applications for this product range include OTC, prescription medication and a range of other medicament packaging.

Specialty label materials

Products in this range are typically used for highly sensitive drugs with critical packaging needs, such as pre-filled inhalers, syringes and saline bags. Anti-counterfeiting products incorporating UV and holographic features, in addition to tamper-evident solutions such as destructible films, are also included in the range.

By tapping into our pharmaceutical team’s resources, you can benefit from streamlined product development and material expertise while developing labelling solutions to fit your applications – irrespective of pack shape, size or contents.

Consumer healthcare and variable label materials

Our portfolio of consumer healthcare and variable information printing products has been created to deliver strong shelf appeal, sophisticated packaging and extended content labels, as well as patient and medicine tracking and information.

Core industry requirements include availability of multiple labelling methods and, more critically, an extensive product line to match the manifold variations in pharmaceutical products. This latter point is of particular importance given the number of patients admitted, medicines prescribed and the number of pharmaceutical products in and around medical facilities. Each of these factors requires individual – or variable – information for security, identification and tracking purposes.

Service and support

Avery Dennison is committed to meeting the diverse and demanding needs of the pharmaceutical industry. Whatever your requirements, Avery Dennison specialists are on hand to provide you with the expert advice you need on all aspects of our pharmaceutical products range. From global research and development resources and local manufacturing facilities, to highly specific requirements and optimised solutions, Avery Dennison is there to support you for all your pharmaceutical labelling needs.

Avery Dennison Launches Pharma Label Adhesives

Avery Dennison has launched two proprietary adhesives for pharmaceutical labeling to partner its paper and film facestocks. Fasson S2000NP and Fasson S692NP are said to provide pharmaceutical manufacturers with high mandrel performance, low migration, long-term adhesion and regulatory compliance.

Fasson S2000NP's high mandrel performance makes it suitable for the tight-diameter curves of glass, PE, and PP ampoules, vials and test tubes, and is also suitable for sterilization by autoclaving, ETO and gamma radiation. Fasson S2000NP partners Fasson LW supercalendered, double-machine-coated lightweight paper. Jan΄t Hart, global business director, pharmaceutical segment, for Avery Dennison Roll Materials,…

Blood Bag Labeling

Increased awareness of the transmission of disease through blood transfusions and intravenous medication is driving the demand for enhanced product security and traceability in pharmaceutical and medical fields. Consequently, the identification and labelling of blood bags, for example, has become a critical application in hospitals and other medical centres.

Whilst the labeling of these bags takes place during manufacture, secondary labels are typically applied after filling and testing. Special care needs to be taken during this process as the product itself must also be able to withstand a host of demanding technical processes. Given the complexity of these products, our technical experts are always…

Dedicated Adhesives for Pharmaceutical Applications

Avery Dennison's high-quality pharmaceutical product range has been developed to meet industry standards for mandrel performance, low migration characteristics and compliance. Typical applications for this product range include OTC, prescription medicines and a range of other medicament packaging.

Accordingly, the product range is designed to meet the pharmaceutical packaging standards. Fasson® S692NP – Low migration risk Due to its high performance characteristics, this adhesive is recommended for applications with high migration risk such as LDPE containers that have been filled with fluids. This clear, permanent adhesive features good adhesion to a range of…

Label Materials for Hanging Devices

The use of self-adhesive laminate for hanging devices is becoming increasingly common in the medical and pharmaceutical industries. These applications offer an economical solution for hanging glass bottles containing fluids for intravenous delivery. Furthermore, by combining label strength and tear resistance with high-shear adhesives, the weight of either glass or plastic bottles is firmly supported.

These self-adhesive products must exhibit characteristics which contribute to the functional performance of the final label and support compliance with relevant ISO and DIN norms. Avery Dennison offers high tear-resistant Valéron® film and low-stretch PP125 combined with high adhesion and shear-resistant adhesives such as Fasson® S697, S517N and S700. These adhesives fulfill requirements for good…

Luminescent Products

Pharmaceutical products need to be inspected to confirm the presence of the original labels. While white labels are relatively easy to detect due to the optical brighteners (OB) they contain, transparent filmic labels require luminescent properties for detection. This allows for the effective identification of missing labels using UV light-detection equipment.

Fasson® S4000 LUM The combination of Fasson® S4000 LUM adhesive and PP film in various thicknesses is ideal for such applications. With its clear, permanent acrylic base, the adhesive offers good tack and adhesion performance, even on apolar surfaces. Fasson® S697 LUM Fasson® S697 LUM adhesive is recommended for added resistance to the effects of…

Security Label Materials

The significant rise in counterfeit drugs necessitates the development of unique packaging features. One possible method is to include additional security features on or within the packaging by using specific label materials.

Anti-counterfeiting products in the Avery Dennison Fasson® range incorporate specific properties in the adhesive, face material or backing. These properties include, among others, UV fluorescent fibres, holograms, micro-print and UV fluorescent threads etc. For product integrity and increased security, tamper-evident solutions using destructible films can also be used in a number of pharmaceutical packaging applications.…
